How do I get a copy of my background check?

If an employer ordered a background check on you, here's how to ask us for a copy of your report.

This article is for applicants. If an employer ordered a background check on you through BackgroundChecks.com, you can ask us for a copy of your report.

If you checked the option to receive a copy when you filled out your application, we email you a secure link once your report is complete. If you did not check it, or you can't find that email, ask our support team for the link.

How to ask for a copy

  1. Email [email protected] from the same email address you used on your application. That is the address where you got your application invitation from us.

  2. Include your full name and the name of the employer that ordered the check.

  3. If you got an email from us about your check, such as Disclosure and Authorization or Your County Report, you can reply to that email instead. Your reply comes from the right address.

If you write from a different email address, we may not be able to find your report. Send the request again from the address on your application, or reply to one of our emails about your check. If you no longer have access to that address, call 1-800-942-1366.

What you get back

Our support team replies with a secure link to your report. The link starts with app.backgroundchecks.com/consumer-report/. In some cases we attach a PDF copy of the report instead.

The reply also includes a PDF copy of the Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

If the link will not open

  1. Copy the full link and paste it into your browser's address bar. Clicking the link does not always work.

  2. Try a different browser, or a computer instead of a phone.

  3. If it still shows an error or no longer works, reply to the same email thread and ask for a new link.

If something in your report looks wrong
